Bio-oil from Microalgae: Review of Existing Methods, Challenges, Milestones and Governmental Role Needed to Develop Algal Biofuels

Microalgae have been promoted because of their potential to produce high levels of carbohydrates, protein, amino acids or other value added products such as fluorescent dyes, each of which can increase its value as an energy crops . Despite their golden appeal, however, producing biofuels from microalgae as a commercially successful industry remains limited as its viability as a large-scale process has not been demonstrated .
