To elucidate the relationship between structure and function in NiSOD active center, we prepared three Ni(II) complexes with an N2S2-type square planar structure, 1, 2, and 3, as its model compounds. They were characterized structurally, spectro-scopically and electrochemically. From the comparison of redox potentials of these complexes in several solvents, we have proposed that the amino-amidato-dithiolato type N2S2-donor set in the first coordination sphere and the H-bonding interactions in the second coordination sphere significantly contribute to SOD function.
