The study consists of a modal and a dynamic analysis of the E464 locomotive manufactured by Bombardier. The whole activity was performed in the Laboratory of General Mechanics and Mechanics of Vibration (MGMV Lab) at the Genova University Engineering Faculty, with the collaboration of Bombardier Transportation Italy of Vado Ligure (Savona). The first step was the study of data and information available on the electric locomotive E464 to be simulated through the MSC ADAMS/Rail software. The second step were the design and the development of the software model of the locomotive, a near-to-reality model of the vehicle, tuned and validated through the comparison between the frequency-modal analysis in Adams/Rail and the frequency-modal analysis of a dynamic report of ADtranz Germany. The third step were the development of several studies, in particular the preload analysis, the linear analysis of the locomotive vibration modes, the dynamic analysis of the railway bogie, and the analysis of the results data. Finally a preliminary diagnostic study of the E464 locomotive's model was started.
