Measuring and Evaluating Degree of Awareness and Behaviors of Electricity Conservation at King Saud University

King Saud University (KSU) is considered as one of the major consumers of the electricity in the domain of the Saudi Electric Company (SEC). According to the SEC, the average bill of electricity consumption for the past three years has almost reached eight millions Saudi Riyals per month. This research has been conducted to study the KSU faculty, administrators and students in order to measure their awareness and attitudes towards the conservation of the electricity consumption. The applied methodology was done through questionnaires to explore their opinions, conviction and willingness to adopt relevant procedures and methods to conserve and improve use of electric energy in KSU campus. The results show that the two main sources of energy waste are Air-Conditioning and lighting systems. It has been noticed that the volume of energy waste is high. This study recommends intensifying the efforts for awareness campaigns as well as using media facilities in KSU to act against this energy waste and reduce its cost.
