Determining soil-water characteristic curve is time consuming and laborious. Many attempts have been made to establish relationships between readily available soil properties, like particle-size distribution, organic matter content, and bulk density, and the soil-water characteristic curve. These relationships are referred to as pedotransfer functions. In this study, four pedotransfer functions for soil-water characteristic curves are evaluated for Japanese sandy soils. Modifications are suggested for the pedotransfer functions to improve their fit to the soil-water characteristic curves of the Japanese sandy soils.
