The main characteristics of debris flow in Xiaojiang basin were studied in this paper. The method that combines field survey, indoor analysis and remote sensing was adopted, and further investigates the characteristics including environmental background, distribution and activity of debris flow in Xiaojiang basin was further investigated. Some special characteristics of debris flow were found. (1) The distributing density of debris flow in Xiaojiang basin is large. The distributing density of debris flow in the whole basin is 37.8 ditches which are counted with the average number of debris flow ditch in an area of 1000km~2. (2) The covering rate of debris flow ditch in Xiaojiang basin is high. The total area of 114 debris flow ditches in the whole basin is 1312.06km~2, and it accounts for 43.08% of the area of Xiaojiang basin. (3) The characteristic of debris flow activity in Xiaojiang basin is mainly shown as periodicity (6a), seasonality (June to August), night-happened (19:00 to next 8:00), companion-happened, and groups-happened. So it is necessary to further study debris flow in Xiaojiang basin for its above distinct characteristic.
