摘要

The interest in micro-machining operations increased over the last decade. The applications are linked to different engineering research areas like subminiature actuators and sensors, medical devices, moulds and jewels. The cutting forces are particularly critical, since they can cause deformation and tool breakage, excessive wear due to thermal and mechanical overloads, and also have an effect on the results obtained in terms of surface finish and dimensional accuracy. In the particular case of micro-milling due to the size reduction of the tools, factors such as tool-tip runout, minimum chip thickness effect, vibration, etc. must be considered, even if in conventional milling they are negligible.
