Laboratories of Indian Legal Metrology Enforcement Offices and its accreditation and linkage with ILAC

The Legal Metrology enforcement offices in India have their own laboratories under the aegis of the Controllers of Legal Metrology in all the Indian states. Accreditation of these laboratories with ILAC and its signatory bodies is necessary to enhance the quality and reliability of Indian goods in the domestic market and export, thereby, catalyses the growth of the Indian economy. In India the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is a signatory member to Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) and ILAC. The study was carried out by standard methodology. On the basis of results of this study, it may be concluded that majority (P<0.05) of enforcement officers advocates the need of compliances in this regards. The conclusion of this study points towards conducting a study on wide scale to ensure better compliance and consumer protection in India..
