A risk assessment for watershortage is constructed to analyze the carrying capacity of water resources in Sheshui River watershed, China. It is based on the information of present economic development There are several serious environmental problems which might cripple the development potential in Sheshui River watershed Risk assessment results are used to analyze the carrying capacity of water resources from an ecological angle in Sheshui River watershed It is found that watershortages in this area are not related to types of watersource, but can be classfied in terms of water quality and conservation. The authors analyse changes in the carrying capacity of water resources under the conditions of future water management policies. The result indicates that carrying capacity of water resources in Sheshui River watershe can only be effectively improved by effcient use of water and water conservation schemes, as well as long-term investment in environmental protection.
