We study time-reversal mirrors in chaotic cavities using a semiclassical approach.We present calculations of the reconstructed signal under various conditions. The refocusedsignal is shown to build up in the region of the source, by multiple interference, in the form ofa reversed wave. We demonstrate that the optimal reconstruction is achieved at the refocusingtime and at the point of the original emission. This refocused signal scales linearly with therecording interval and inversely with the area of the cavity. We stress the importance of theunderlying dynamics. and its role in the signal reconstruction when the time-reversal mirroroperates under an external perturbation.
