Wearable systems that record, monitor and wirelessly transmit biopotential signals, such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) or electromyogram (EMG), enable applications such as home monitoring of patients (reducing the length of hospital stays) or elderly people (allowing to prolong their autonomy). However, for these applications the wearable system needs to be unobtrusive to be accepted by the users. An implementation in the form of a "band-aid" with a certain degree of mechanical flexibility allows such systems to be discretely worn underneath clothes as well as conform approximately to the shape of the body. An important factor limiting miniaturization and flexibility is typically the presence of relatively large rigid components. In this work we have addressed this issue by integrating the active integrated circuit die in such a way that it becomes mechanically flexible as well.
