Our results showed 50% of total daily miles traveled by an average U.S. motorist were totally solar powered with the addition of on-board PVs that covered less than 50% (3.25 m~2) of the projected horizontal surface area of a typical mid-size vehicle (Nissan Leaf). The addition of a PV to a prebuilt EV with standard battery and motor components was more economical than adding PV to ICE. However, in places where gasoline cost are high it also economic with ICE. Adding PV to ICE vehicles have more environmental impacts.
