In 2003, Mercier had completed a 5 unit refurbishment project to upgrade runner efficiency During commissioning, rotor pole temperatures were found to be higher than expected in spite of prior modifications to the cooling system to address this potential issue. The temperature was read from temperature indication stickers placed on the rotor pole faces during pre-commissioning tests. Modifications were made to the cooling system and the rotor overheating problem appeared to be resolved However in light of the initial rotor pole overheating, Mercier was looking for a possible solution for permanent rotor pole temperature monitoring. VibroSystM's upgraded ThermaWatch Rotor was used on site in September 2007; results confirm the pole overheating had been resolved and show promise for future applications.
