Devices to enhance medium voltage electricity distribution networks performance are evolving rapidly. The adaptation of legacy technologies, perhaps previously only applied in transmission schemes, and the development of intelligent embedded devices such as fast acting vacuum circuit breakers, load sensing / fault passage devices, load flow control and compensation devices, and other wirelessly connected devices combine to achieve a greater value and service for the network, and create the Distribution Networks "Internet of Things" An understanding of the applications of new technologies is required by design engineers, as devices cross conventional standards, and allow the applications of devices to achieve a greater value and service.
