This paper presents a case study of an operational enterprise system for computer supported cooperative work. F.I.R.E. delivers secure, assured, accurate, and timely information in a collaborative environment via the Internet to authorized Navy, DOD, and Coalition users worldwide. This paper discusses the FIRE software architecture and collaborative systems to enable distributed cooperative work. The architecture includes web-based access and extraction; data, information, and knowledge warehousing; and the integration of collaborative tools for coordination and decision support to military experimentation teams. Discussed models and methodology provide high-level views of systems integration, extraction tools and processes, AI-based metadata generation for ontology development, and collaborative knowledge processes.
