In the present study, the composite material of the low-cost calcium carbonate decorated with metallic zinc (Zn/CaCO3) is prepared by chemical plating and applied in the smoke agent instead of the traditional brass powder.A new method of metal particles coating non-metallic powder by chemical plating is discussed, the calcium carbonate material is treated with the coupling agent and formaldehyde solution, then Zn/CaCO3 composite material is prepared based on the organic treatments.Structural and morphological characterization of the synthesized products are carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), then we use Fourier transform infrared remote sensing spectrometer (RS-FTIR) to analysis the transmittance of smoke screen.Results show that the particle size of Zn deposited on the surface of calcium carbonate powder is small and the coating of metal Zn is uniform.Based on the modified calcium carbonate deposition, it not only enhances the screen effect of its application in smoke agent, but reduces the cost of the smoke material effectively.
