PREPARATION OF RESIN MATERIAL HAVING IMPROVED ULTRAVIOLETTSCREENING PROPERTY

PURPOSE:To prepare an ultraviolet-screening resin useful for packaging, etc., having improved weather resistance, strength, flexibility, etc. and containing a stably dispersed ultraviolet absorber, by adding a solution of an ultraviolet absorber in a monomer and a polymerization initiator to a granular olefin polymer and carrying out polymerization in the aqueous suspension. CONSTITUTION:(A) 1-50wt% of a 1-30wt% solution of (a) an ultraviolet absorber (e.g. 2-hydroxy-4-n-octylbenzophenone, etc.) in (b) a vinyl or vinylidene monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate, etc.), and (B) a polymerization initiator (e.g. lauroyl peroxide, etc.) are added to (C) 99-55wt% of a granular aliphatic mono- or diolefin polymer (e.g. polyethylene, etc.) to impregnate the component (C) with the major part of the solution. The mixture is suspended in water and polymerized at 50-150 deg.C under atmospheric pressure to 50kg/cm2 to give the desired resin material.
