PAN-based activated carbon fibers (PAN-ACFs) developed on the basis of the PAN carbon fibers (PAN-CFs) are a new generation of adsorbent material. PAN-ACFs not only have the characteristics of the viscose-based ACFs, pitch-based CFs, phenolic-based CFs, but also have better mechanical properties and selective adsorption properties. Activation is an important process for preparation of the PAN-ACFs. Activation method and corresponding activation process all have great effects on mechanical properties and adsorption properties of the final PAN-ACFs. In this research, the influence of the steam flow rate on adsorption and mechanical properties of PAN-ACFs prepared by steam activation was investigated.
