Synthesis of Metal-Coated Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by Fluidized Bed MOCVD for Aeronautic Applications

These last years, the aeronautic field is intensively looking for the mass reduction of the on- board electronic equipment packaging of airplanes to make them greener and more economical regarding fuel consumption. To make this packaging lighter while keeping its electrical and thermal evacuation capacities and mechanical features in extreme conditions, a new composite material combining carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polymer matrix represents a promising alternative to aluminium. The aim of this work is to improve the electrical and thermal conductivities of CNTs, and consequently those of the final composite material, by depositing either a continuous film or homogeneously dispersed nanoparticles (NPs) of iron on their inert surface. A subsequent benefit would be to improve the electrical contacts between CNTs by lowering the Schottky barriers.
