Dibenzothiophene (DBT) is widely recognized as a model of organic sulfur compounds present in hydrocarbon fuels such as coal and petroleum. Traditional desulfurization technology is not very useful for DBT because of its large molecular radius and steric hindrance. Surface molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with good selective adsorption capacity can be applied in chromatographic separation, solid phase extraction, bio mimetic sensors and other fields [1-4]. In our work, methylacrylic acid (MAA) was grafted onto the surface of carbon microsphere (CMSs). Reaction time, MAA amount and UV irradiation distance were discussed. MIPs/CMSs were obtained for adsorbing DBT. It is significant for deep desulfurization in hydrocarbon fuels.
