Tyres contain around 50% of fillers, mainly carbon black (CB) but also silica and zinc oxide. Recently, recycling processes were developed permitting to produce CB that could found application for rubbers, filled polymers, inks and paints. Despite the efforts done to minimize the impurities concentration remains important and have necessarily an influence on their surface properties, which were examined using inverse gas chromatography analysis (IGC), taking industrial CB as reference. IGC in infinite dilution condition shows that recycled CB exhibit close surface characteristics to the industrial CB despite the presence of an important amount of mineral impurities. Their surface heterogeneity was also assessed by IGC at finite concentration using heptane, isopropanol as probes. All IGC analyses evidence an important contribution of mineral impurities to the potential of interaction of the CB surface.
