Computer Simulation of Fancy Yarns Based on Structural Model of Appearance

Based on theories of computer graphics and computer simulation technology, this paper has set forth appearance parameter models of fancy yarns in the light of the spinning principle and the physical and geometric structure of fancy yarns. And in combination with local illumination model and diffuse reflection model, the paper has solved the key problems of graphics expression of yarn appearance and simulating structural effect of yarns in light. This paper will discuss the methods of simulating three kinds of fancy yarn-loop yarn, wave yarn and chenille yarn. A visual representation, namely parameterized structural model of appearance, is created by abstracting from the physical and geometric configuration of real fancy yarn. Such improved approach for simulation would help for further optimizing the design of the fabrics made from fancy yarns, which has the theoretical and practical value.
