The new trends of draining dry weather flow in flat areas require use of the pressure sewerage system, which is more economical from the investment view, very easily applied in a relatively short time and can cope with a faster expansion of the urbanized areas. But here is a question: Is this system safe considering water sources, which are very often present especially in flat areas? Is it only a modern trend or a necessity? Which is better to build: a gravitation sewer system, a pressure or a vacuum sewer system? The costs influence choice. On the other hand, the gravitation sewer system is safe, especially for draining dry weather flow. What impacts we can expect on the local environment? The paper shows when and where it is better to use the pressure, vacuum and gravitation sewer system and illustrates the failures in existing sewer systems, and how we can plan to reconstruct the existing sewer system and to decrease negative impacts on the environment.
