In this study, an inexpensive and automated microcontroller-based ESR measuring device was developed and tested using the blood samples of twenty patients. Manual measurements were done using VESRACK tool. No systematic difference exists between the ESR estimates from the device and the tool (P=0.90). There is a high correlation between the ESR estimates as determined by Pearson correlation coefficient (r=0.998). The ESR estimated by the device is almost the same as that of the estimated by the manual tool. The device provides reliable ESR estimates quantified with very low mean absolute difference calculated over the repeated measurements (0.18mm/hr).
