Brazilian oil and gas reserves are located mainly in offshore fields, towards deep and ultradeep water depths, where well construction is specially complex. Continuous development of drilling technology leads to increasing use of synthetic based drilling fluids, which have adequate characteristics as lubricity, shale stabilization and low toxicity. In this situation a gas kick is a major concern, as formation gas will dissolve in organic compound of synthetic based drilling fluids. The better understanding of gas solubility is very important in operational and environmental safety of well control procedures, in order to avoid a blowout situation. Methane was chosen because it is the principal component of natural gas, while ester is used in the formulation of drilling fluids. Knowledge of phase equilibrium of these mixtures, at high pressures and high temperatures, demands experimental tests, which are specific, expensive and taking a long time. This work presents experimental data, obtained through PVT analysis, of methane and ester emulsions mixtures. Laboratory tests were performed with a last generation equipment, where a complete visualization of the sample fluid was possible.
