Crude oil production around the world has been on the increases due to the level of worldwide demand. This has led to the development of acidic or sometimes heavy crudes in different parts of the world. However, in some cases these crudes can lead to the formation of calcium naphthenate deposits which can lead to problems during oil production. Therefore, the prediction and prevention of calcium naphthenate deposition is very important in achieving trouble free oil production. A broad description on how calcium naphthenate is formed using a thermodynamic naphthenate prediction model has been available in the literature for some times. In this paper, we present results from calcium naphthenate re-precipitation experiments using naphthenic acid extract from field deposits. Experiments were designed based on predictions from our calcium naphthenate prediction code which is also described in this paper.
