Design of a MPT Based Instrument Supporting the Quality of Procurement of Assistive Technology

The procurement of Assistive Technology in the Netherlands is often supported by professional advice during the phases of indication, typology and selection. Such advice is supposed to be user centred and driven by the intention to find an optimal match between the individual user needs and the available technology. In practice advice tends to depend on individual proficiency and the constraints dictated by the regulations providing the basis of the public procurement. To improve the quality of the match between the individual and the selected Assistive Technology a protocol was developed incorporating the MPT model into an existing procedure. The resulting method was evaluated in two rounds of practical application in the procurement process.
