Promoting 'Design for All' in the (e-)Tourism Industry: an Approach Towards Inclusion

The e-Motion Competence Centre committed itself in promoting Design for All and inclusion in the tourism sector. It has initiated a set of activities which are presented in this paper. The ongoing project activities have revealed a widespread reluctance of the tourism industry to adopt accessibility measures. Initial evaluation results have also shown a limited level of accessibility at accommodation providers. This paper presents the accessible tourism initiative of the e-Motion Competence Centre (ICT research in the tourism, sport and leisure industries) in the Province of Salzburg. It summarizes the work-in-progress and introduces its concrete measures and experiences in promoting Design for All (DfA) and inclusion in the tourism industry.2
