A Study on Recognition of Tactile Walking Surface Indicators by White Cane

This research analyzes the power transmitted from a white cane to the hand when contacting the dot block using the TWSI according to the parametric size arrangement. In addition, the relation between the recognition ability of the white cane and the vibration acceleration of the white cane is quantitatively investigated. Perception psychology researches the mechanism by which a thing is perceived by the hand. Research is also being conducted on perceiving things with cylinders and pens. It is understood do the proportion of strength of stimulation to ruggedness intervals when the person recognizes ruggedness stimulation with a pen object. Perception is achieved through the proportion of stimulation intensity to bump intervals when a visually impaired person senses bumpiness with a pen-like object. However, pen objects and roughness size are very small in the early research compared with the size of the white cane and the TWSI. This research used a 1200mm-long white cane with a 15mm-diameter tip. The purpose is understanding a person's senses, and quantitatively examining the recognition of the TWSI is significant in perception psychology.
