Adapting Linking Rules to the International Classification of Functioning as a Method for Representing Assistive Technology Knowledge

Consider an every day activity such as making tea. The person making tea will have to lift a number of different objects including the kettle, teapot, tea caddy, sugar bowl and so on. All of these actions have different requirements and on this basis it is necessary to distinguish between them. This distinction is not possible without augmenting information provided by International Classification of Functioning (ICF) codes. The extension proposed here is based on case structure grammar [2] and augments the policy of the linking rules due to Cieza and others[1] to document additional information when faced with content of a meaningful concept that is not explicitly named in the corresponding International Classification of Functioning category.
