Management of helicopter noise in the UK

This research project was commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra, UK) with the objective of identifying possible opportunities for the improvement of the management of noise from helicopter operations in the UK. Motivation for the work included a perceived lack of information in connection with helicopter noise, and in particular, with regard to whom complaints should be addressed. Clarification was also required on remediation and mitigation. The study included a summary of the existing procedures in place for handling complaints relating to noise from helicopters. Comparisons are drawn with rules and regulations from other countries. Opportunities for improvement were reported and recommendations made on how these could be implemented. This paper summarises the work presented in the final report.
