We have found that the issues in the DC properties of conventional cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) can be solved through the DC-XLPE insulating material. The DC-XLPE's major advantages against conventional XLPE are as follows: (1) High volume resistivity; (2) Low space charge accumulation; (3) High DC breakdown strength; (4) Long DC life time. The HVDC cable system including DC-XLPE cable, land joint, transition joint and outdoor termination has been verified according to the test conditions of CIGRE TB 219 and is ready for actual HVDC cable project application up to DC 250kV under the conditions of conductor temperature of 90°C and polarity reversals. In addition, the load cycling test of the 320 kV type tests including polarity reversal testing, were also successfully completed according to the test conditions of CIGRE TB 219. Moreover, prequalification test for a 400kV DC-XLPE cable and its accessories are being conducted and will be completed in 2013.
