Possible future expansions to the Port of Cape Town were being considered by way of reclaiming land into the sea. This reclamation was to be protected by a rubble mound and armour protected revetment. However due to the restricted access into the area and the limited availability of suitable rock for the revetment, a number of different alternatives for the core of the revetment were being considered. One option chosen for further investigation, was the use of a steel A Frame covered with geo-fabric to replace the rock core of the revetment. This paper discusses the results of physical model and prototype tests on the A Frame.
