Energy-saving solutions for a UHT milk plant

This paper takes in consideration the Ultra High Temperature milk production process, in which energetic improvements are carried out. The process employs saturated steam for heating and mixing purpose, and this steam leaves the process with a high enthalpic content. The authors propose a system employing heat exchangers for recovering the energetic content of the steam leaving the process. Since steam is produced by natural gas fed steam generators, another proposal made in the paper is substituting these by a heat recovery steam generator fed by the hot exhaust gases of gas turbines.
