This paper presents a novel application of holographic optical element as concentrator for Photo Voltaic solar cells. By multiplexing several holographic lenses one over the other or stacking several holographic lenses side by side, daily movement of sun can be tracked which ensures complete elimination of tracking parts. A theoretical study on optimization of design parameters of holographic solar concentrators for achieving appreciable diffraction efficiency over large acceptance angle is presented to show that by optimizing the design parameters like thickness of the film (d), depth refractive index modulation (n1) and fringe spacing (Λ) the acceptance angle of holographic-concentrators can be increased appreciably with reasonably good diffraction efficiency over the desired wavelength range.
