摘要

SWAP (Spinning Water Atomization Process) promised to serve coarse magnesium alloy powder, being significantly safe in handling, with fine microstructures via rapid solidification process. The conventional magnesium alloy, AZ31B (Mg-3%Al-1%Zn-0.3%Mn) and noncombustible magnesium alloy, AMX602 (Mg-6%Al-0.5%Mn-2%Ca) powder were prepared by SWAP, and compacted at room temperature. The green compact with a relative density of about 85% was heated at 473-673 K in Ar gas atmosphere, and immediately consolidated by hot extrusion. Microstructures observation and evaluation of mechanical properties of the wrought AZ31B powder metallurgy (PM) alloy were carried out. As-atomized powder indicated fine grains with 2~5 micron, and its wrought alloy also showed remarkably uniform microstructures with refined grains less than 0.5~1 micron via dynamic recrystallization during hot extrusion.
