Analytical Strength Analysis of Strands Applied for High Pressure Hoses

The intention of this paper is to show some analytical and numerical techniques and typical results have been applied and gained for the so called SZ and ZZ type 1+6+12 wire structures hose strands to get in their analysis for axial tension, twisting and bending. Analytically the well established Costello - Velinsky theory (see Costello et al. 1974, 1979, 1983, Velinsky, 1985) was applied while the FE modelling and calculation was proceeded by the Marc commercial software. The results of the investigation include not only the geometrical data like extension, rotation, curvature etc. but also the typical stress coordinates and the effective Young modulus and Poisson ratio of the strands under investigation. Both, so called free end loading and fixed end loading tasks have been investigated. The results have been compared with each other and also with experimental measurements.
