Conversion MV 'DRONING INGRID' to M. V. 'AFRICA MERCY'

Before moving into the substance of my presentation, I would like to give you some background as to why we, as a charity, would want to convert a train ferry to a hospital ship. Mercy Ships is an international, interdenominational Christian humanitarian organisation taking hope and healing by ships, to the world's poorest nations. This grew from a vision of our founder, Don Stephens, in 1964 when he and a group of young people survived a hurricane in the Caribbean. In 1978 he purchased the MV Victoria from the breakers yard in Genoa, and with a team of volunteers "resurrected" the vessel over the next four years, to realize his vision. Since 1978, Mercy Ships, a global charity, has operated a fleet of hospital ships in developing nations. Mercy Ships takes hope and healing to the poor and needy, by mobilizing people and resources worldwide.
