Experimental results are presented that clearly line out a scenario of transition to chaos in plasma by type I intermittency in connection with the nonlinear dynamics of a double layer structure. The intermittencies were recorded in the time series of the current through the plasma conductor as random bursts that interrupt regular oscillations. The oscillations are triggered by the nonlinear dynamics of the double layer structure.
