We have been working on non-living “statistical” copolymerization to form block copolymers. We developed a segregated star type block copolymer employing main-chain olefinic macromonomer which contains divinylbenzene (DVB) unit with a single-site catalyst and followed different mode of polymerization to form side chain.1 Variety of block copolymers can be synthesized from this methodology by changing the monomer and mode of the polymerization. In this presentation, we will show the synthesis, properties and applications of the first output block copolymer consisting of the main-chain Et-St-DVB macromonomer and polystyrene (PS) side chain from anionic polymerization. The variety and potential will be discussed.
