Using CCD cameras and real time intelligent data analysis for film defect inspection(Abstract)

Lab extruder inspection has become standard staple for resin manufacturers. As part of a rigorous quality assurance and process monitoring program, resin manufacturers and their customers rely on vision systems to inspect test batches on lab extruders for gels of various size and cause. The presentation will outline methods beyond the "one size fits all" approach commonly applied today. It is based on experiences with the web inspection systems used by the resin consumers which are often more sensitive and purpose build than the relatively plain gel detectors used in resin manufacturing. An overview is given of optical and image/data processing with the intention to permit customization of inspection methods and criteria to better correlate with the actual usage of the resin while in parallel maintaining a constant inspection method for process control.
