LiFeP_2O_7was synthesized by a wet chemical process using and ironnitrate as precursors. The effect of synthesis procedure and heat-treatment temperature on the purity, grain size and crystal structurewas studied. The resulting powders were characterized by varioustechniques including structural and magnetic measurements.Magnetic experiments exhibit the antiferromagnetic transition atT_N=27 K. The electrochemical features were investigated showingthat lithium insertion in the Li_(1+x)Fe_20_7 phase provides a practicalcapacity of 98 mAh/g.
