A Platform for Applying Agile Principles to Project-based Learning Assessment in Software Engineering

The Software Engineering program at Arizona State University employs a project-centered curricular design. The program, started in 2010, added a full online modality in 2014, and was ABET-accredited for both modalities in 2016. The program currently serves over 1200 undergraduates, including over 900 in the online modality. Needless to say, it is a challenge to deliver quality education at this scale, and technology is one mechanism for achieving this scale. An agile approach to education is another mechanism to achieving scale. The paper reports on the latest implementation of an agile-based formative and summative assessment platform called the Continuous Assessment Platform.
