Health and Safety at Work Analysis and Diagnosis of Brazilian Construction Companies

This paper presents a research project that was conducted with more than two hundred construction companies in Brazil with regard to Health and Safety at Work (HSE) in the Construction Industry. The project involves a focused analysis, diagnosis and performance evaluation of these companies' site operations. The study methodology was based on questionnaire surveys, construction site visits, and management systems audits. Official and academic data gathering and manipulation were also used. The project results indicated that some expected paradigms occur in this field but a more comprehensive analysis of the sector specific HSE activities led us to several new conclusions.
