In 2006, the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that 19% of global electricity generation resulted from lighting. Thus, lighting is a major source of electricity consumption around the world. By properly selecting the lighting sources used, each household can reduce energy consumption, while reducing utility costs. We create a decision support model for selecting the optimal light bulb assortment of a household. We take into account both quantitative parameters of the bulbs, such as purchase price, and electricity cost; as well as qualitative properties, such as environmental effects. Using mixed integer programming, we develop a customized multi-objective optimization model, which minimizes total cost and maximizes user defined "green factors". A user interface allows the user to obtain customized results by specifying their personal priorities and needs.
