Experimental Studies on Seismic Behavior of Through Column Bolt-End Plate Moment Connections for Concrete-Filled Steel Tube

A total of three experimental specimens of through column bolt-end plate beam-to-column connections consisting of concrete-filled square steel tube column and H-shaped beams had been tested under low-cyclic reversed loading to research the hysteric behavior, the strength and stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity and the failure modes. The only difference of all specimens was the axial compression ratio. Experimental results show that the story drift ductility ratios are 2.38-2.45, the elastic and elasto-plastic story angular drift are 0.0140~0.0158rad and 0.0341~0.0377rad respectively, and the energy dissipation ratios are 2.561~3.820. The experimental results demonstrat that all specimens developed plastic hinges at the end of beams and provided superior seismic resistance in strength,stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity. Those results indicate that the seismic resistance exceeds those specified in China. Additional antiseismic design and research recommendations are presented.
