HYDROCARBONS PRODUCED FROM A STEROL RICH MICROBIAL LIPID ISOLATED FROM AN OLEAGINOUS YEAST CULTURED IN NONSTERILE CONDITIONS
Renewable microbial lipids offer a promising feedstock for advanced biofuel production, however, the cost of the lipids remains prohibitively high. In this paper the yeast Metschnikowia pulcherrima, previously utilised as a biological control agent, was used to produce lipids under industrially suitable non-sterile conditions. The resulting sterol rich lipids were then converted into suitable hydrocarbon fuels by a one-step catalytic cracking reaction.
