In catalytic cracking which is used for heavy oil processing, dry gas with lower carbon number and light cycle oil (LCO) with carbon number similar to light gas oil are produced besides gasoline. The LCO fraction includes not only large amount of sulfur but also many aromatic compounds such as methylnaphthalenes. Therefore LCO has lower cetane number and is used as a mixture to less valuable fuel oil for ship. To increase the value of LCO, hydrocracking is one of promising methods. In recent years, hydrocracking of LCO, has been tried to obtain raw materials of petrochemicals including more valuable aromatics with single ring such as benzene, tolune, xylene, butylbenzene etc. We have already reported that zeolite-alumina composite supported NiMo catalysts were effective for hydrocracking of 1-methylnaphthalene and decahydronaphthalene mixture.
