Advanced combustion has drawn much attention from researchers due to the increasingly strict emissions regulations1. Partially-Premixed Charge Compression Ignition (PCCI) combustion mode creates a premixed charge inside the cylinder before ignition occurs. As a result, NOx, and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions can be reduced simultaneously without a penalty on the engine’s efficiency. Its basic operating mechanism is to prolong the mixing timescale of the fuel-air mixture by separating the end of the injection and the start of the combustion2.
