Microchannel reactor technology holds great promises for process intensification due to good heat and mass transfer properties. They may also enable safe operation for reactions involving poisonous compounds, explosive mixtures, and operation at high temperature and pressure. Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis is a highly exothermic reaction and temperature control is extremely important to achieve good control of the performance and especially selectivity to the desired products. Combined with highly active and stable catalysts, microchannel reactors can achieve high volume based productivity and therefore process intensification. In addition, the scale up by adding more operation units is more straightforward.
